Whitty Kym Ryder hails from Wigan in Lancashire, were she was brought up by her parents Pauline and Dave!!
By becoming a popstar kym wasnt relising her own cherished fantasy, she was also living out the dream once held by her Father.Long before Kym was born on june 13 1976, in Haydock, near Wigan in Lancashire, her Dad David, had is own band, called Ricky and the Dominant Four. They performed all over the north-west of England , appearing alongside leading acts of the time such as The Shadows and Cille Black.
Kym's parents both quickly noticed that Kym was musical, " The desire to peform was always there " said her Mum Pauline. "From the age of three she would pick up a hair brush and sing. She'd say " im going to be on Top Of The Pops when im a big lady "
She always sang as a child, said her Dad, ' ever since she could open her mouth' "We used to go to a local labour club every Sunday lunchtime. Kimberly always pestered me to let her get up and sing.
Finally i gave in. Everyone was amazed when she started singing Livin'Doll.No one could belive how good she was.' Pauline added:
'Goodness knows how she knew the words. She never faltered and was completely in tune. When the place broke into thunderous applause our little girl was in her element. We were so proud of her and a little shocked that such a good voice could come from a 10 year old.'
After this avent, nothing could stop Kym from singing, joining clubs and peforming.
At the age of 14 she got a place at the Elliot Clarke stage school, also in Liverpool. Her headteacher there,Annette Thomson, can remember her. 'She was always well behaved and never mischievous. Kym was one of those pupils who always had it in her to make it big. Her elder brother Jonathon , recalled: " i would wait outside for her and crease up with laughter at all the weird noises she made. Kym would come out and do hilarious impersinations of the singing teacher. She was always messing around!
But for a while in her teens, Kym experienced some problems with weight. 'When she was 16, she weighed less than 7 stone, her mum remembered. 'She was terribly thin and i was really concerned about her.' Pauline believes that it was meeting her boyfriend, a local builder called David Cunliffe, that saved Kym . 'he was good for her. He's very funny man, and made her happY. Once she fell in love she was fine and her weight went back to normal.' but Kym would be given a sharp reminder of her teenage illness shortly after joining the popstars band!
At the age of 18, Kym had two life-changing experiences. One of these was her fathers heart attak, which left him seriouly ill for a while. As soon as Kym heard she rushed straight to the hospital where her Mum was already waiting, to be told that her Dad was in a critical condition. I'm not deeply religious but i do belive in God, and that night i prayed; "Please, please. " her father pulled through, and is today in good health again.
The other thing was Kym and David found out that kym was expecting a baby. Kym's happiness was tempered a little by her fathers state of health, 'Her dad had just had a heart attack and she was worried about him,'said her mum, Pauline. 'But once she relised that we were all behind her she was fine.'
Kym gave birth to her son David named after her Father-in 1995. Two years later, she had a daughter, Emily. But she still pursued her hopes of a singing career!
Kym went to loads of auditions but never suceeded, but one day, she went to try out Popstars which was going to be on live television, over 3,000 hopefuls turned up but Kym shone out by far, this went on for weeks and weeks were the judges had to keep breaking the people who came to audition down untill there found the stars of the show!!
The popstars band was chosen, the band would consist of 2 boys and 3 girls, five people, the youngest of whom was 19, and the eldest 24, had suddenly become among the most instantly recognisable faces in britain - and that was before there even brought out a single or even come up with a name for the band...but a week later, there decided to call themselves Hear'Say, and the final five in the band were...Myleene Klass, Suzanne Shaw, Danny Foster, Noel Sullivan, but the voice of the band was Kym Marsh!
The band had alot of succes and were all other the papers everyday!! there first single Pure + Simple sold over 160,000 copies in just the first day of release, the single went straght to the top of the charts, but still, there success didnt stop there, their second single, the way to your love also reached number 1 in the charts..However Hear'Say started to lose their fans, and there third single reached number 6 in the charts!! There decided to bring out a album, and this is when Hear'Say relised there were no longer the populast band no more, it reached 22 in the album charts. Then a few weeks later, Kym Marsh...who had the best voice, best looks, best perosnallty and really was just the best in the band, LEFT!! Nobody could get over her departure! The papers stated she left becuase of cat fights and alot of arguments with former band member busty Myleene Klass, but really nobody will ever really no why, only the band and Kym!!
But the good news is that the star of the last two years is persueing a solo career, and comes out in January next year, and my best wishes and good luck go to the wicked gal Kym ryder!!
Kym has the looks, the voice, the family, she's got the eastenders heart throb Jack ryder, shes got the cutest kids in the world,and shes got us THE FANS!
